Wow.  Kerry those are some FAST times.  Make sure you find someone like Samantha, Dennis or Trent to help you out with that speed.

Big welcome to the new folks.  You are with a great group of folks that can help you reach your goals.  If you have a good base and want to work on your speed, a bunch of us get together at the Clear Creek HS track on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM.

I like to set the bar high Smiley, but I think the goals are attainable.  I need to shave 22 seconds from my 5K PR (hopefully this Sat. at the Lunar Rendezvous).  But I have yet to run the full 13.1 miles to gauge where I'm at with respect to the half-marathon goal (I'm still building mileage).  My best guess is from today's run where I ran 9 miles and still felt like I could run 4 more at the same pace which would put me at about 1:41.  From past races I'm guessing I can pull 5% off from the extra race adrenalin and running in the pack and the other 5%(or so) is likely gonna take a lot of work.

I will look for Samantha, Dennis, or Trent (I think I've met Samantha, but I'm terrible with names).  I will try and be at the track on Tuesday, but 6:30 is just too early and too hot so it might be more like 7 or 7:15 for me.  Thanks for the input.

According to McMillan, a 20 min 5k should translate to a 1:32 half.  It might be a challenge, but it should be reachable.  Good luck!!

Kerry - sounds like you will definitely challenge me and Virginia to keep up with you. I'm hoping to run  a 1:33 in the fall but a 1:30...that would be pretty intense for me. I'm so guilty of being a lazy butt since May...I really need to get back on track Wink. Other goal is to break 3:30 in the full...a 3:25 would be sweet!! If you do speedwork with Virginia on Tuesdays...you two will definitely get your sub 20 5k. Unfortunately my 5k pace is about the same as my 10k...and half marathon pace so I probably can't help you out too much there Smiley. I do my little track workouts...but don't see much progress Smiley. Dennis and Trent are both great training buddies...and if Frank Binetti does his homework he is pretty fast as well. Definitely look forward to running with you. I need some challenge. Virginia and Dennis will appreciate it too!!

Ohh...by the way...I live in Newport...so you are close to me!!

I run with my head, my heart and my guts, because physically, I don't think I've got a great deal of talent or ability. I started at the bottom and (continue) to work up.

Welcome aboard.  How many minutes are you trying to shave?  A good way to race faster is to train faster.  There is a group of us at the track on Tuesdays at 6:30.  We meet at the Clear creek HS track.  If you get a chance , join us.
